Sonic Integrity Test (SIT)
Method Statements

1.The aim of SIT
The aim of SIT is checking the pile is continuous and has no major defect.
2. Test equipment
• Computer with FPDS-6 software,
• Cable from FPDS-6 with PCMCIA card,
• Test hammer,
• Accelerometer.
3. Sonic Integrity Test
3.1. Preliminary conditions
• SIT can be done 7 days after the pile is completed.
• Upper part of pile should be cut to expose good concrete.
• Test point - two horizontal and smooth surfaces (about 10 cm2 each) in the middle of the pile top.
3.2. Test
• Starting the SIT program.
• The data of testing pile should be introduce to the computer.
• Placement of accelerometer on the pile head.
• SIT signals are recorded after impact of hand hammer on the pile top.
• Results of three impacts are displayed on computer screen.
• If results of testing are not good the test should be repeated once more.
• Memorising of test results.
4.Measurements during the test
• Length of the pile
• Defects of pile
• General quality of pile concrete
5.Pile test report
Test report should consist of:
• description of testing piles,
• opinion of testing piles,
• field results of pile.

Static Load Test
Method Statements


1. The aim of load test
The aim of static load test is checking the vertical bearing capacity of the pile according to Polish Code PN-83/B-02482.
2. Test equipment
• Hugenberger gauge with accuracy 0.01 or 0.10 mm and measuring range 50 mm,
• Pressure gauge with accuracy 0.5 or 1.0 MPa and measuring range 40 MPa,
• Hydraulic jack with measuring range - 1000 kN or 1500 kN,
• Hydraulic pump - 63 MPa
3. Pile test
3.1. Preliminary conditions
• Static load test can be done thirty days after the pile is completed.
• Reaction structure and hydraulic jacks should be placed in a such way that pile will be loading axially.
• During the test the place of the test cannot be forced by vibration of machinery or trucks.
• The load applied on the head of the pile by hydraulic jack will be measured on the base of hydraulic oil pressure shown at the pressure gauge. When the several hydraulic jacks are used all of them should be connected to the one hydraulic pump.
• The vertical displacement of tested pile will be measured by two Hugenberger gauge with accuracy 0.01 mm and measuring range 50 mm. The gauges should be fixed to the pile head. The relatively rigid beams supported minimum 3 m from the pile will be measuring base.
• The anchoring pile movement will be measured also by Hugenberger gauge.
• The test should be done in two stages.
3.2. Test
• The load of the test in I stage should reach the value of pile bearing capacity.
• The load should applied step by step. The load value of every step should be about 1/8  1/12 of pile bearing capacity. Each step will be realised with stabilising of settlement according to Polish Code PN-83/B-02482.
• After the maximum load of the I stage will be finished the pile will be unloading by three steps without stabilising of settlement.
• The load of the II stage of test should reach the value of 1.5  pile bearing capacity minimum.
• The load should be applied step by step. The first eight steps will be realised without stabilising of displacement. The next steps should be realised with stabilising of displacement. Maximum load should be applied as long as displacement will be stopped.
• After the maximum load of the II stage will be realised the pile will be unloading by five steps without stabilising of movement.

4. Measurements during the test
During the test it should be measured:
• load of pile on the base of oil pressure in the hydraulic jacks,
• vertical movement of tested pile and anchoring piles,
• time of measuring.

 

The displacement of tested pile should be checked after every changes of load and during stabilising.
The test should be stopped if the movement of anchoring pile will be more than 4 mm. Readings of measurement and every comments of behaviour of piles or reaction structure should be noticed. The copy of notes should be enclosed to the pile test report.

4. Pile test report
Test report should consist of:
• description of test pile and soil conditions,
• description of reaction structure,
• information about the test equipment,
• the table with loads and displacements of tested pile ,
• the load settlement graph according to Code PN-83/B-02482,
• analyse of pile bearing capacity,
• pile report
